Always keep Your Spiritual Priorities Intact
It’s no secret that when we’re young, we feel that we can do just about anything we want, any time we want. We don’t think about consequences because we feel invincible, and we think we’ll live forever. As we mature and get older, reality sets in. We recognize that life has rules, that we can’t do anything any time we want, and that anything worth having will require effort. Life is a gift, and it is up to us what we do with it. We can handle it very poorly or we can handle it with care. If the latter is our choice, we must understand that life is anything but a random thing. Nothing about our lives is a mistake. There’s a reason for our births, and we have a purpose for being on this earth. The person we choose to walk with us in life can either help us achieve God’s purpose, or they will be used as an instrument of darkness to separate us from it.
Our blessings and fulfillment are all woven into our purpose. The biggest trick of evil is to keep a person blinded to the reality of their purpose in the Plan and Will of God. Often the weapon of the devil’s choice is ignorance. God said in Hosea 4:6 that His people are destroyed because of a lack of knowledge about Him, and it is because they refuse to know Him. The destruction that ignorance causes is vast and more devastating that we can imagine. In its wake is destruction from failing to spiritually grow, and failing to strengthen our relationship with Heavenly Father in Christ. We must come to grips with the truth that living in a spiritually weak condition means that precious relationships, people, and blessings will slip through our fingers. It’s because we haven’t pursued and armed ourselves with the spiritual knowledge about God through our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. The revelation and information that we don’t know is opening the door for destruction in our lives.
We’re not going to know all the truths contained in the Bible, but we have to know enough of it to understand God and His sovereignty. Earnestly pursuing God’s Word means that we’re seeking God first. This is a requirement. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 6:33(NLT), “Seek the Kingdom of God above all else, and live righteously, and he will give you everything you need.” This is one of those rules that no human can afford to overlook. We were created from God’s love, and we are commanded to walk in His love by following the example of Christ. This can only be achieved by learning about Jesus Christ. It’s the knowledge of his life, sacrifice, and example of love that keeps us connected to God and living righteously before Him. If we skip out on this, we lose everything.
We are spiritual beings with a soul, housed in body. This is what we are. When we accept God’s love in our hearts by accepting His Son as our personal Lord and Savior, God’s Spirit comes to live inside our human spirit. 1Corinthians 6:19-20(NLT) teaches, “Don’t you realize that your body is the temple of the Holy Spirit, who lives in you and was given to you by God? You do not belong to yourself, 20 for God bought you with a high price. So you must honor God with your body.” We belong to God. Everything does. We must honor God with all that we are, and this is how we remain blessed.
In 2Corinthians 3:5, Heavenly Father tells us that we should never be arrogant and think that we are more than what we are, or that we can do more than He’s made it possible for us to do. He tells us in this verse that He, and He alone, is our sufficiency. This means that God is our Provider and Protector. He is the Supplier of our blessings and the Source of all good things. If God doesn’t give it to us, we can’t have it. And if He doesn’t bless it, it’s not worth having.
Heavenly Father has designed the universe to cooperate with His purpose. So, when you and I are outside of God’s purpose, the universe does not cooperate with us. Many single or unmarried individuals have wanted a quality and significant relationship for a very long time. They’ve prayed to God to cross paths with the person that will walk with them through life, but many of us haven’t honored God. We want His goodies, but we don’t want to demonstrate our love for Him by doing what He’s purposed us to do. This is not a workable strategy. It’s not one He will bless.
Never place your relationships with individuals before your relationship with God. He must be honored, and Jesus Christ commanded us in Mark 12:30 that we must love God with all our hearts, souls, minds, and strength. Our relationship with God must be prioritized in the number one spot. When it is, He will strengthen, guide, and bless us to maintain quality relationships with others, so that we will have a fulfilling and meaningful life. ■
