Is A Negative Attitude Holding You Back?

God’s plan covers every detail of our existence, including our most significant relationships. We should never doubt that God wants us to have a person in our lives that will love us the way He wants all His children to be loved. Many people have become very cynical about this and they don’t fully trust God when it comes to relationships or finding the right person. They’ve had a few—or maybe more than a few—bad relationships or breakups, and they’ve soured on the prospect of ever finding the right fit. You’ve probably heard some women say that there aren’t any good men out there, and you might have heard men make negative comments about the motives of some women today; calling them gold diggers or opportunists. This kind of thinking and attitude is negative. It isn’t representative of the thoughts and attitude that support the plan Heavenly Father has for us. We must be clear that this negativity will work against our efforts to live a rich and fulfilling life, and we need to release it.

Heavenly Father designed the universe in such a way that life does not bend to the plans of human beings. This is a tough pill for many to swallow. Most people think they can set their own agendas and things will unfold based on the plans they’ve made. Proverbs 19:21 tells us that a person can make many plans, but only God’s purpose will prevail. Everything in the world, no matter how large or small, cooperates with the Will of God. If you and I have a negative mind-and-heart-set, life will not slow down and wait for us to get on board with its pace. Life will simply move forward as we continue to be stuck in quicksand with a mind that isn’t renewed to the positives of God’s Word.

It’s so important for us to wake-up because so many people are spiraling downward and harming their relationships with God because of failing or failed relationships. Focusing on the negative forces us to become more and more out of touch with faith. Once we become planted on this negative course, we are no longer able to walk in God’s love in the way we should. All this stuff that is happening around us is stealing our focus, and in Galatians 5:6, the Apostle Paul said all of it isn’t the least bit important when it comes to God’s purpose. Paul says that what’s really important is faith expressing itself through love. This means we are to live life boldly, with confidence, by letting God’s love flood our hearts.

Sometimes, negative experiences in our past prevent us from doing this. When we put our hearts into a relationship, and it doesn’t go as we expect, some of us will allow a part of ourselves to either slowly become numb or die. There’s a potential for bitterness to set in, and this can cause us to be totally out of step with God’s plan. A better way is to increase our commitment to be led by the Spirit. The Spirit of God lives within us, and He knows exactly where we need the greatest help. He knows what is keeping us from living the life we’re supposed to live. Galatians 5:22 tells us that the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. These are the fruits that the Spirit will produce in our lives if we will allow ourselves to be guided by him. Then the things once choked out of us will be restored or revitalized.

Galatians 5:25-26(NLT) goes on to tell us, “Since we are living by the Spirit, let us follow the Spirit’s leading in every part of our lives. 26 Let us not become conceited, or provoke one another, or be jealous of one another.” If we could make ourselves all that God wants us to be, we wouldn’t need the Spirit’s help, but the truth is that we can’t become the person God wants us to be without the help of His Spirit. God will do all that needs to be done if we will be patient and give ourselves fully to Him.

2Corinthians 4:4(NLT) says, “Satan, who is the god of this world, has blinded the minds of those who don’t believe. They are unable to see the glorious light of the Good News. They don’t understand this message about the glory of Christ, who is the exact likeness of God.” To blind people is one of satan’s greatest tricks. Trusting God with your whole heart and giving your whole life to Him greatly pleases God, because it allows Him to help you get on board with His plan. This is what the enemy is trying to prevent, he wants to keep us blinded so we will not trust God and believe in the Good News of all Christ has made available.

Let’s not allow ourselves to be tricked. Instead, we should open our eyes wide to Christ and allow his love to illuminate the darkness that has us trapped in the negativity of doubt and unbelief. God has a wonderful plan for our lives, but our faith and trust in His ability and willingness to bless us is a must! Pray that the Lord will help you to release anything in your past that is holding you back and be attentive as He reveals it to you. Know that your better days are before you and do everything you can to show God that you’re preparing to embrace them. ■
