There are those who do not believe in the reality of a destiny partner. Their approach to relationships is very matter of fact. They don’t ever want to get married, but like the idea of casually dating different people. If a serious groove with someone develops, they’ll take it as far as it goes, but for them, marriage isn’t a prospect for the future. This by no means assumes that this is a bad person. Marriage isn’t for everyone, and some people live beautifully without it, but if you are someone who desires to be married one day, you must be convinced beyond a shadow of doubt that God desires it more for you than you do for yourself. If you are a person who sees marriage as the beautiful institution that God created it to be, it is very likely that marriage is in your destiny. This means that your interaction with someone who doesn’t view marriage in this way is very impactful. It will affect how close or how far you are from getting what you ultimately want.
A believer in the Lord Jesus Christ understands that faith is required to please God, and faith is required to do anything and everything else. We must have faith to build the kind of life we desire. Romans 8:17 tells us that faith comes by hearing and perceiving the truth of God’s Word. You cannot build faith by believing a lie. It comes where the truth is believed and trusted. Many single people are actively engaged in the process of building their faith towards marriage. They understand the importance of partnering with the person that God will present. They greatly value God’s blessing in this area because of the missteps and heartaches they’ve experienced in the past.
None of us want the frustrations and mistakes of the past on repeat. What we should want is to have the lessons of those past hiccups firmly under our belts, so that we’re wiser, emotionally stronger, and humbled by our prior relationship experiences. One of the reasons this is meaningful to our journeys forward is because of what learned-lessons do for us internally. They can help to increase our faith so that we’re making room for the blessing that is sure to come our way. Heavenly Father isn’t moving us about like pawns in a chess game. He’s not in heaven arranging Ruby’s life in such a way that she meets Jason at 5PM on Tuesday at the grocery store two blocks from her apartment. This would violate Ruby’s free will. Our FAITH positions us. It places us squarely on the path of where we need to be. This is why some of the things that are blocking it must be moved out of the way.
Jesus Christ said in Luke 8:17 (NLT), “For all that is secret will eventually be brought into the open, and everything that is concealed will be brought to light and made known to all.” There are some secret things that we’d like to remain hidden, but they show up whenever we meet someone who might be interested in us. Many of us dive in headfirst without giving the person who is truly our destiny partner a second thought. Some of us think so cavalierly about relationships, and because we deny how extremely important they are to our spiritual journeys, we sometimes end up impeding our faith. We miss an opportunity to build momentum in our believing for the right one, because we’re distracted and wasting valuable resources on the wrong one.
Romans 8:14-16(NLT) says, “14 For all who are led by the Spirit of God are children of God. 15 So you have not received a spirit that makes you fearful slaves. Instead, you received God’s Spirit when he adopted you as his own children. Now we call him, “Abba, Father.” 16 For his Spirit joins with our spirit to affirm that we are God’s children.” We are God’s children, and a child of God can expect the best because she or he will present the best. Because we are our Father’s children, we will treat those near and dear to us with the love, support, and compassion of Christ. Therefore, we can have an expectation that we will receive no less than what we are willing and able to give. The person that is destined to walk through life with us will greatly value our commitment to demonstrate a Christ-like love; and it will be reciprocated.
Our faith should inspire us to use discernment so that we are not cheated out of God’s blessings. A person that has no aspiration for marriage and cannot see it for the treasure it is, may not be the best person to appreciate your desire for it. The right person is equal to the time and energy you spend preparing for them spiritually. Have faith that you will meet someone who equals your capacity to love and shares many of the same goals you do for life and family. Continue to build your faith through daily prayer, reading God’s Word, and listening for God’s direction and guidance. He will never steer you wrong when you are committed to only invest in, be patient for, and want only what He has for you. ■
