Be Aware of Demonic Influence

2Timothy 1:7 tells us that God hasn’t given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. If we’re exhibiting behaviors, attitudes, and feelings that take us away from these three—power, love, and self-control; then we’re walking outside the spiritual territory of God’s love. This is not something anyone should ever want to do. But sometimes we do it and don’t know it. One of the most debilitating situations for a person is when they operate from a place of fear and not love, and they don’t know the difference between the two. They can be in a relationship that is being controlled by the devil, and they are unaware of it. People tend to run away from anything that has to do with this subject of demonic control. It sounds spooky to them. The devil knows this and has made them very comfortable under his influence. A person can stay in a toxic environment and will tolerate it for a very long time to avoid the temporary upheaval and discomfort that come with change.

Our relationships, particularly those with the significant people in our lives, will either help us transform and evolve into the person God created us to be, or they will take us off the path of destiny, where they will continue to be an impediment or blocker to our blessings. Some of us are not honored or treated well by the person we’ve chosen as a partner. We’re cheated on and lied to, and yet we stay in this relationship because something within tells us to continue coming back for more. It’s like what the Apostle Paul said in Romans 7:19(NLT), “I want to do what is good, but I don’t. I don’t want to do what is wrong, but I do it anyway.” There’s a void internally that we’ve been carrying around, and sometimes we’ll take a willing vessel and stuff him or her in that hole in our hearts. This person is usually not a destiny partner; and for many of us, they don’t even have to be a quality person. As long as they don’t force us to confront the void, they’ll do just fine.

This isn’t something we articulate to them. Most of us haven’t done the soul-work to realize or communicate it to ourselves, but we’re still broadcasting a distress signal loud and clear. It’s a non-verbal communication that our hearts speak about us. A person can always sense the weakness in another, especially manipulators that prey on those easily manipulated. When someone comes into our lives as a partner, and if they’re not mostly helping us to be strong in our weak places, there’s a strong possibility that they are tearing us down.

The issue isn’t so much about the person. The issue is what we’ve bound to our lives, and our refusal to recognize it and release it. Jesus Christ said in Matthew 18:18 that whatever we bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever we loose on earth will be loosed in heaven. Our souls were created to be continually nurtured and nourished by the goodness of God, not by the darkness and evil of satan. Imprisonment through remnants of fear like obsession, jealousy, sadness, sexual deviancy, and emotional instability are rooted by the devil, and we should want this stuff out of us and away from our lives. .

Ephesians 6:12(NLT) tells us, “For we are not fighting against flesh-and-blood enemies, but against evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against mighty powers in this dark world, and against evil spirits in the heavenly places.” The fight is real! But God has equipped us to always stay in control and be victorious through the Lord Jesus Christ. He’s given us the spirit of power, love, and sound mind or self-control. We should desire to partner with someone who equals our highest self in Christ, but we won’t recognize them if we haven’t begun to scratch the surface of who our highest self in Christ is.

Our relationships are to be set upon a foundation of faith, not fear. And again, here’s the big whammy that the devil knows about us humans, we often derive pleasure being with someone who compounds our weaknesses and keeps us under the influence of darkness. So, we must wake up and be aware of what the enemy is doing. Our destiny is to be whole and complete through Jesus Christ! We must pray and have faith that the Lord will help us surrender the attachment to people that keep us comfortable under demonic influence. Heavenly Father will reward our desire and effort to do this, because it will allow us to step inside His will and plan for our lives.■
