The wisdom of Proverbs 19:21(NLT) states, “You can make many plans, but the Lord’s purpose will prevail.” God has a plan for our individual lives, and nothing happens randomly. Typically, people are of two mindsets. Either they wonder aimlessly through life and think they’re supposed to take it as it comes, or they think they’re in charge of everything, and that they can control their futures. Neither of these are in alignment with the instruction and guidance in God’s Word. His Will is preeminent, and if we fail to get on board with it, we’re outside of it, and that is the absolute worse place to be.
In John 10:10(NKJV), Jesus Christ tells us why he came to the earth. He said, “The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” He came to earth to show us the way to God, so that we can access everything that God has in store for us. Most people don’t give this much thought. They have their own way of doing things, and as long as it suits them, they’re not too pressed to change. They won’t consider the possibility that they are missing out or that they are not living the life that God has destined them to have. This kind of approach to life is called walking in darkness. It is when a person is totally blind to the way of Christ. They will only see what’s in front of them with their physical eyes, and they will not view life with the spiritual sight that comes from our Lord and Savior.
2Corinthians 5:7 states that believers and followers of Christ must walk by faith and not by sight. To walk by faith is to walk according to what God has said in His Word. It is to believe Him and what He says over and above any other thing. To walk by faith isn’t a suggestion, it’s a commandment. We must have faith in God’s willingness and ability to bless us, and if we don’t, Hebrews 11:6 says that we can’t please Him.
All the blessings we desire for ourselves are contained within God’s Will, so we can’t afford not to want to please Him. Pleasing Him and fulfilling our purpose within His Will is the reason for our existence, and if we miss this, we miss everything. Overlooking God’s Will causes life to be a series of disappointments and mistakes, and this is where many of us are today. We haven’t taken our relationship with God seriously and haven’t met His requirements to live our lives through His love. Whenever this is the case, life will continue to mirror our refusal to love and seek God with all our hearts.
1John 4:8(NLT) states, “But anyone who does not love does not know God, for God is love.” Our Heavenly Father creates and produces through His perfect love, and His love is woven into everything. When we love through Him, we bring ourselves into harmony with the very best, because He is the very best. Our desire shouldn’t be to have someone just for the sake of not being lonely anymore. In other words, our desire to share life with someone can’t be selfish, it can’t be all about us. We must have a genuine desire to bless a person by giving them God’s love. This is the most wonderful thing we can do.
So, instead of being down because we may not have that special person in our lives today, we must make a shift. We must pray that God will help us. We must have a willingness to learn about the love of Jesus Christ, so that we follow his example more and begin to share his love with others. God is love! He has designed everything in the universe to cooperate with His love. So, when our hearts are motivated by what is pleasing to God, He will help us to prepare spiritually. Then, when it’s your time for bouquets, candy, cards, and other kinds of sweetness, you’ll be ready to share your heart with another, and you will do it God’s way.■
