Never Doubt that God Wants the Best for You
Some blessings take longer to manifest than others. This is just the truth. When it comes to crossing paths with the person that God has ordained to walk with us through life, many people are still in the phase known as “waiting mode”. They’ve been praying to meet a good and Godly person that is compatible, but this blessing hasn’t yet materialized in the natural realm. God desires marriage for every person that wants to be married. Marriage is His institution. It didn’t exist before He established it. He declared in Genesis 2:18 that it wasn’t good for man to be alone, and then He sanctioned the institution and union of marriage to make two people into one. From this, you and I can conclude that our desire for marriage and partnership is a very innate and organic desire. Seeking connection is a very basic human yearning, but if the right connection is our goal, it must be done God’s way.
One of the main purposes of marriage is to teach us about unity. Why is unity important? Unity is very important to God because unity is a function of love. Unity teaches us commitment and we can’t be true disciples of Christ if we’re not fully committed to him. It cannot be lost on us that having some understanding about God’s love and the way we’re supposed to operate in, by, with, and through it is a prerequisite for the blessing of marriage. Tons of folks try to skip by this one, but it’s impossible to do. When God’s love isn’t our prime motivation, we’re left with chaos, confusion and heartache.
Heavenly Father’s commandment to us in Ephesians 4:24(NLT) is to “Put on your new nature, created to be like God—truly righteous and holy.” We are God’s children, and we represent His Kingdom. God tells in 2Corinthians 5:20 that we are ambassadors for Christ, and we are commissioned by him to tell others about his love. We can’t really serve this commission well if we don’t trust God’s love and walk in it for ourselves. Loving our marital partners will be our greatest and most profound ministry. We must demonstrate to Heavenly Father that we’re prioritizing His love above all other things. We must put on God’s nature. It’s a life-long commitment. So, He doesn’t expect us to be perfect at it right away, but we at least have to be aiming in that direction before we get partnered up with one of His treasures.
God tells us in 1John 4:16 that He is love and everyone who lives in love lives in God, and God lives in them. We were created out of God’s love to operate in His love, and when love is not the operating program in our minds and hearts, a malfunction is sure to come. How do we know when God’s love is not our motivation? James 1:19-24 The Message (MSG) tells us. “Post this at all the intersections, dear friends: Lead with your ears, follow up with your tongue, and let anger straggle along in the rear. God’s righteousness doesn’t grow from human anger. So throw all spoiled virtue and cancerous evil in the garbage. In simple humility, let our gardener, God, landscape you with the Word, making a salvation-garden of your life. Don’t fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don’t act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away, and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like.”
If our actions don’t look like love, we’ve lost our identity, and this means we’ve lost our way. The repercussions of being lost is that the blessings we desire most can’t find their way to us. We have a responsibility as believers to build the landing strip for blessings to land. We do this through our faith in God. We must have faith that God is who He says He is and that He will do what He says He will do. Many of us say we trust Him, but our behaviors speak something totally different. We think to ourselves that He isn’t interested in the dating aspect of our lives, so we make major decisions and choices without His input. The truth is that God is interested in every detail of our existences, especially when it comes to the significant person in our lives.
God desires the best for us. He desires that the person that will walk with us through life is an individual that will be loving and supportive, someone that will help us to be the person Heavenly Father has created us to be. Many of us haven’t recognized that we’re in wait mode for a reason, and it’s because we’ve not adequately prepared spiritually for the blessing from God that we seek. We want Him to hurry up and bless us, when we’ve not demonstrated the patience and attentiveness to learn from Him and walk according to His guidance. We need this to be able to attract from a place of wholeness and not from a place of desperation. When His love is fully anchored in our hearts, we are at our absolute best. This is what God is guiding us to. He wants the best for us, and our commitment to learn to walk in His love will prepare us for what He has in store. ■
