It takes time to go off the rails of emotional stability, and it will take time to regain this stability as well.
God created human beings in His own image. It is very important that we understand this because it is a foundational truth. When we’re crazy in love, and then suddenly that love is yanked from beneath us, we feel as if the very core of our being is crazily unsteady. There’s really nothing that compares to the pain. It’s like the sickness of a continually looping roller-coaster ride, but in the pit of your gut its magnified exponentially. It’s a soul-sickness, and it is always a big mistake to seek a medicine outside the one that only Heavenly Father can administer through the Lord Jesus Christ.
Being crazy in love can be one of the best feelings, but it also means that our emotions are probably calling the shots. To explain this, we must first understand how we’re wired to some degree. God created us to self-govern and to also reign supreme in our ability to do so, but this government rests upon the shoulders of Jesus Christ. This means that we should govern ourselves according to the pattern that Christ set and the foundation that Christ laid. Our emotions don’t have the authority or power to lead us on the path that God has destined us to walk, only Christ has this authority. So, whenever we’re in a situation where our emotions are determining the quality and substance of our existence, we need to get off that track, because it’s a train wreck waiting to happen.

It takes time to go off the rails of emotional stability, and it will take time to regain this stability as well. Heavenly Father will always help us, but we must have a desire to walk the path He’s laid before us. We must also know that nothing about God can be defined as crazy—not His love, not His power, and not His nature—Miraculous, yes! But not crazy. 1Corinthians 14:33 tells us that God is not the author of confusion, that’s the enemy’s territory. Heavenly Father is a God of order, and He’s chosen a path for us that will cause everything in our lives to work together for our good. Our uniquely appointed path of destiny is not a path of our own choosing. God has appointed it, and it is one we can describe as the ‘uncrazy’ path, because it will make straight what has been crooked. It is the path we were destined to walk according to God’s Will and Plan.

Our Heavenly Father is one God who functions as the Godhead bodily. There are three members of this Godhead: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; also called Holy Ghost. In Genesis 1:26, God, the Father, had a conversation with Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit. He said to them, “Let us make humans in our own image.” Just as He is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit; He created us to be spirit, soul, and body. We are spiritual beings, with a soul, housed in a body. 1Thessalonians 5:23(NLT) says, “Now may the God of peace make you holy in every way, and may your whole spirit and soul and body be kept blameless until our Lord Jesus Christ comes again.” We are one person, but we have three functioning parts and our goal as spiritual beings is to have all parts of us functioning in harmony and in alignment with God’s Will.
Emotions are a part of the soulish realm. The soul oversees how we express our individuality. Our souls give us license to remain among the living and to operate within the earth’s domain. Our human-spirit is the part of us that is re-created when we accept Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior. This is when we are born-again, but we must be clear that while our spirits are made brand new, our minds and hearts are not. They do not change after the new-birth experience. God has given us the gift of free-will, and He will never overstep this gift. Romans 11:29(NLT) tells us, “For God’s gifts and his call can never be withdrawn.” Heavenly Father created us to have a mind and heart like Christ, but He will not come inside our heads and hearts and start moving all the negative stuff out and putting all the new stuff in. He has charged you and I with this responsibility. As self-governors, we are the directors of our own souls.
In Ephesians 4:23, God tells us to be renewed in the spirit of our minds. In Romans 12:2, He commands us not to be conformed to what society is doing—to their customs, traditions, and societal norms. But this doesn’t mean we are to behave unruly. We are not to allow the negativity and culture of the world to conform us or make us something God doesn’t want us to be. He tells us, instead, to be transformed by changing the way we think. If society has a standard to love great, our standard must be to love greater. If society has a standard to give great, our standard in Christ is to give greater. So as spiritual children of the Most High God, we are empowered through His love to function at a capacity that isn’t limited by the world.
A spiritual transaction occurs when we invite Jesus Christ to come into our hearts and make his home there. Our hope in him goes up the Fallopian tube of faith and in the same way, God’s seed travels down from heaven and is implanted in the deepest part of our being. This seed is the Holy Spirit of Promise. God promised thousands of years ago that He would pour out His Spirit upon His people, and that promise is fulfilled because of the finished work of Jesus Christ.
God is aware of what you’re going through. He sees every detail of your life and knows the extent to which the wiring in your soul has caused you to misfire or misplace your faith. You must be convinced that the Spirit of Christ is working in your soul at this very moment. Although He didn’t cause it, He has allowed a shaking to occur so that you will turn to Him and see a part of His love that you haven’t seen before. 2Corinthians 3:5 tells us that Heavenly Father is our sufficiency. He wants to firm your shaky places so that your foundation is strong in Christ—so that you no longer look to another person for something only God can give. He will place your feet on solid ground as you walk the uncrazy, yet supernatural, path of His incomparable, unconditional love. ■
